A convicted sex offender, who police say stabbed his 12-year-old daughter multiple times and
left her for dead beside a rural road, has been captured after a week-long manhunt.
John R. Tuggle was arrested in the northern Idaho mountains Tuesday. His daughter remains in serious condition
in a Spokane, Washington hospital, but is expected to recover.
"He said he had not eaten in three days," Sheriff Chuck Reynalds said. "So much for living in the wilds of
northern Idaho. Apparently he was not as proficient as he thought he was. He ate two full plates of food and is resting in
solitary."
Tuggle is being held on attempted murder charges.
Tuggle served nine years in prison for raping his 14-year-old sister-in-law. He traveled to Idaho from Colorado
to see his children, who he had not seen in 10 years. He told his ex-wife that he wanted to take his daughter shopping, but
instead drove her into the woods and assaulted her, according to police.
Police were able to capture Tuggle after a convenience store clerk recognized him from a wanted poster.
